Portraits of their Compendium Tithe, 2016

The final piece of my graduating year.

In Northwestern Ontario, a winter tradition involves making “ice candles”—lantern-like forms glowing softly in the snow, often placed in cemeteries as quiet memorials. Drawing from this, each portrait in this series encases a moment in time, capturing participants through the debris they would normally discard.

Each participant was asked to spend two weeks noticing and collecting overlooked items from their daily lives. From these materials, I curated a “snapshot” of who they were during that period, creating portraits shaped not by what they chose to present, but by what they left behind.
